Diploma support
"It is fantastic to see the new Diplomas gathering momentum. They will provide young people with the skills they need and employers want. The world of work is rapidly evolving and we need new qualifications that adapt to it. Young people can study Diplomas which are industry specific, giving them a head start in that given sphere. They also provide core skills that any employer would value - a good grounding in language and maths, plus team working, independent thinking and how to apply learning to real life situations. I think that as the Diploma spreads it will bring with it a highly employable generation." Gordon Fraser, MD, Microsoft UK
What is a Diploma?
A Diploma is a qualification that offers students a more practical, hands-on way of gaining the essential skills that employers and universities look for. It aims to increase the choices available to young people and encourage them to stay in education longer. The Diplomas allow employers to embed employability into the curriculum through work-related learning and experience. More than 5,000 employers helped in the design of the Diplomas.
Employers can help teachers to design curriculum materials that are relevant to life in the workplace and that fit the local needs (with respect to jobs in the local area). Employers can also help by keeping teachers informed by providing them with inforamtion about their industry - which can then feed into curriculum materials.
